Who gets an invitation?
Jesus challenges the familiar habit of inviting people who can return the favor. He describes generosity toward people who have little to offer us in return. His words expose how easily hospitality becomes a transaction.
Grace widens the welcome
The parable of the great banquet pictures a generous invitation met by excuses. The host sends his servant out again, making room for people who would normally be overlooked. God’s grace disrupts our assumptions about who belongs.
Make room in real life
A welcoming life requires attention. It asks us to notice who is alone, whose story we have not heard, and where convenience has kept our circle small. We begin with ordinary acts of hospitality, shaped by the welcome we have received in Christ.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Questions to carry.
- Who is easy for me to include? Who do I overlook?
- When have I treated hospitality as an exchange?
- What would a generous invitation look like this week?
One step this week
Invite someone into an ordinary part of your week. Make space to hear their story without expecting anything in return.
